Proserpine
Proserpine is situated on the Proserpine River, approximately 125km north of Mackay. Proserpine is an administrative hub, catering for the needs of the greater Whitsunday region. Sugar cane, cattle grazing and tourism are the main economic activities in the region.
Proserpine boasts many modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art hospital, primary and secondary schools, library and sporting facilities for swimming, tennis, bowls, squash, netball, football, golf and indoor cricket.
The nearby Peter Faust Dam, stocked with sooty grunter, barramundi and sleepy cod, is a drawcard for fisherman keen to test their skills. Shaded picnic areas, barbeques, toilets as well as swimming and water skiing areas ensure that there is something for everyone.
